Warning Mankind of Impending DoomThere is general belief that the world/universe will come to an final end at some time in the future. This belief seems to be held by the vast majority of religions and is also held by most non-religious peoples of this planet. That being so, we must ask why is this so common a belief? Either 1) it's true OR 2) we're all mad. If we were all mad then nothing would ever make sense. We would get ourselves into the same hopeless quandary about everything that we would if we took phenomenology to it's logical conclusion. That is, if the ONLY thing you actually know about the universe that you live in, is provided to you by electrical signals to your brain, you cannot tell if the signals are real or being sent to you from a false source. If we were all mad we could not tell if the thought that we were mad is real or is just caused by being mad. Pointless philosophical journey to take. Therefore, option 2 looks like a non-starter. Option 1 is the only viable option left. So its true, fatalism is the way forward, but what if option 2 were a possibility? We need to keep everything under control here and build a way forward that gives us the answer. So, it looks like the universe will end BUT there is a small possibility that its all mad. Science to the rescue! Science is built on logical observation, measurement, experimentation and logical theories that can be bourn out by experiment. We need to be able to measure the "Total Universal Destruction Vs. Madness Index" (TUDVMI). This is expressed as a percentage of "Absolute Universal Destruction Probability" (AUDP). If the AUDP were ever to reach 100%, that would be it for us all. The more insanity that can be measured then the lower the AUDP will be. Taking into account what has been said before about the general belief that the end is neigh, AUDP is estimated to be around 97.35% as of 1 January 2001 (the last time AUDP was calculated by the International TUDVMI committee *). It is very important to note that when measuring the two opposing universal forces of Destruction and Madness, Heisenberg's theories must be considered. Heisenberg first noted the interaction between the observed and the observer which became the basis of his paper on the "Uncertainly Principle" published in 1927. The key point is that the observer affects the observation so don't look for the obvious signs of Destruction or Madness when trying to measure AUDP. Things are more subtle than that! The Ecologists have got it wrong. They are looking for holes in the ozone layer, Global Warming, extinction of species etc. as signs of things going wrong. Psychologists have suffered a similar misapprehension when looking at how mad things are, they look at signs of mental illness, for chemical brain imbalances etc. What should we be looking for when considering impending doom? Entropy and Advertising! Two very simple measures of Destruction and Madness. The international TUDVMI committee have been using the wrong measures when they calculate AUDP at 97.35% and this is a cause for concern. Using Entropy & Advertising (E&A) measures, AUDP comes out at 98.65% so we are much closer to the end that we had previously thought! I'm sorry that I do not have the time to go into the detail of the calculation here. However, Entropy is a measure of the amount of disorder in the universe (if you smash a glass it has more entropy than the unbroken glass). Advertising, on the other hand, is well known direct measure of insanity. That's really what this site is about, watching out for the measures so we can calculate AUDP and know the answer. This, in itself, is worrying for the state of the universe. A meeting is a formal and ordered event, so just the mere scheduling of a meeting affects the over order of the universe and so decreases the overall entropy level. See also |
